Common Ground Mental Health offices are designed to feel like a place, not a clinic. Warm lighting, real furniture, and a team that actually knows your name when you arrive.
Time to breathe, grab water, and settle in. Insurance is verified before you arrive — no paperwork ambush.
Both locations have parking. Public transit works too — Edgewater is near the ferry; Montclair near NJ Transit.
Secure telehealth is available with every clinician. Just mention it when you book — we'll make it happen.
Common Ground Mental Health runs seminars, group therapy sessions, and workshops throughout the year — led by our clinicians, open to patients and the community alike.
Individual therapy changes what you know about yourself. Groups change what you know is possible.
A six-week group for ages 8–17, divided by age. Kids build the tools and confidence to understand anxiety, develop coping strategies, and create their own personal joy toolkit — through fun activities, creative exercises, and teamwork.
A self-paced video seminar that teaches couples how to communicate and feel heard. Watch on your own time, together or apart, and work through the material at your own pace — the bedrock of every strong relationship, without the schedule pressure.
We build workshops around what our community needs. Grief circles, parenting groups, LGBTQ+ support, first-generation navigation — if there's a room you wish existed, tell us.
Common Ground Mental Health began long before it had a name — in a loud family, with a younger brother who learned that the surest way to be heard was to listen first.
My path into this work began earlier than I can remember. I grew up in a family that was deeply supportive and impossibly loud — the kind of house where everyone talked at once, and volume was how you claimed the floor.
As the younger sibling, I took a different route. While everyone else got louder, I got quieter. I watched. I listened. I paid attention to the currents underneath what people were actually saying — who needed what, who was hurting, who just wanted to be understood.
Somewhere in my pre-teen years, I noticed something strange: when I finally did speak, people leaned in. My words seemed to carry more weight, not less, for all the time I'd spent quiet. I had stumbled onto something that would shape the rest of my life — listening is not the absence of power. It's the source of it.
I was doing therapy before I had any idea therapy was a thing you could do.
It wasn't long before friends — and classmates I barely knew — started finding their way to me with their problems. I became the person people talked to. I was doing therapy before I had any idea it was a career, let alone a calling. The moment I discovered you could actually build a life around understanding people and walking alongside them, my path was set.
Everything in my training kept pointing back to one truth: the line between "client" and "everyone else" is thinner than we pretend. We all need support. We all need help sometimes. What makes us human — what makes us unique as a species — is our capacity for social connection and empathy. That belief is the foundation of how every clinician here practices.
Because here's what I know for certain: every person who walks through our door is, quite literally, one in eight billion. Every story, every experience, every diagnosis, every symptom shows up a little differently in each of us. There is no template. And that's not a challenge to manage — it's the whole reason this work stays endlessly fascinating. Our clinicians bring genuine curiosity to every single person they meet.
The name says what we believe: healing happens in the space where two people actually meet.
That's why the name is Common Ground. Not a clinic you're sent to. Not an expert on a pedestal handing down answers. A place where two people meet in the middle — one who's trying to feel better, and one who's spent their life learning how to help. The quiet kid who figured out that real connection happens when someone finally listens? This whole practice is built on that idea.
So let us take this wild journey of life alongside you. Whatever you're carrying, however you arrive — know that we'll be here for the guidance, the support, and the understanding. That's the ground we stand on. Come meet us on it.
The most powerful thing we do is pay real attention. Before advice, before a plan, before anything — we listen.
No two people are alike, so no two treatment plans should be either. Your care is built around your story, never a template.
Care isn't something done to you. It's a partnership — two people finding common ground and working from there.
